Fourth Response

Our fourth response is a little different than previous entries in the series; rather than responding a written text that all of us have read, you will instead be sharing the first paragraph (or two) of your rough draft of ProjectOne. Make sure that the material you have provided indicates the thesis of the your work, in other words, a statement of the general argument that you will be making (your argument may be about the rhetoric of a particular ad campaign, or of a recurring trope in many campaigns or ads, etc.). Keep in mind what you have learned in your readings about writing and supporting thesis statements. The Good Reasons chapter reminds us that theses must be arguable, specific, manageable, and interesting (our "AIMs" for a thesis). The chapter from They Say/I Say focuses on the latter vector most specifically, urging us to question what is at stake in our arguments ("So What?") and why our reader should be interested/invested in the argument ("Who Cares?"). Also of use here are the previous student executions provided on the ProjectOne page as well as the "sample student visual analysis" included in one of are earlier readings from Good Reasons (101-103).

Please past your material as usual (tagged with your name) before 9 AM on Tuesday. We'll workshop these paragraphs in class. Your full draft for ProjectOne will be due for a more thorough peer-to-peer workshopping on Thursday of next week, so it'd be a good idea to work ahead if you have the time.
