To edit pages, just type what you want to add to the page in the appropriate spot. When done, hit the "Save" button and--voila! Presto chango, the page will reflect your edits.
In Point-and-click (P&C) editor
Pretty much the same thing.
ADD A LINK TO AN ALREADY PRESENT WIKI PAGE
Classic
Type the name of the link inside of brackets. So, typing:
[Roster]
on the page you are editing will add a link to the Roster page. You could also type in the full URL (web address) and add link text, like so:
[http://winter1020.pbwiki.com/Roster Click here]
On the page, you'd see the text Click here as a link to the Roster page. Click "Save" to save changes to the page
P&C
Type the name of the link and highlight your text. The "Link" button in your toolbar will activate. A dialog box will open. Make sure the link type is "Wiki Page" and then below select what page you want to link to. Type in different link text if you choose. When finished, click the "OK" button to finish the link and close the box. Click "Save" to save changes to the page.
Type the name of the new link in brackets like so; remember to format it as a wikiword or camelCase so the wiki recognizes it as a link:
[NewLink] (for example--you can name your page anything you'd like)
When you save the changes, the new link will appear on the page with a red, dashed underline. Click on your new link. You will be taken to the "Create a new page" page. Make sure the name for your page is correct and hit "Create new page" button. You'll be taken to the editing screen for your new page and you can start editing the page as you desire. Save any changes you make to the new page, of course.
P&C
Type the name of the link in the page you are editing. Highlight the text and click the "link" button in the toolbar. Dialog box opens. Choose link type "Wiki Page" and link to "-new page-" in the box below. Enter the appropriate name and link text and hit "OK" to save your link. When you save your changes to the page, your link will be active. Click on the link; you'll be taken to the "Create a new page" page. Make sure the name of the page is correct and hit "Create new page" button. You'll go to your new page where you can start editing the new page--remember to save your changes.
[http://www.amazon.com] (or whatever website you prefer)
When you save changes, the text http://www.amazon.com will appear as hyperlink. To change the text for your link add the following:
or
[http://www.amazon.com Amazon]
When you save changes, the text after the URL (in this example, "Amazon") will appear as hyperlink to the website you just linked to.
P&C
Type the text you want to use as your link. Highlight it and click on the activated link button in the toolbar. The dialog box opens. Seclect link type "URL", protocol "http://", and then type the address of the link ("www.amazon.com", for example). Change the link text if you like and click "OK" to save changes and close the box. When you save changes to your page, the link will be active.
You'll need to find the exact URL of the image. So let's say you want a picture of a cat on some page. You find a pic at the following URL: http://www.cats.com/cat.jpg (or ". . .cats.gif"). When you are editing the appropriate page, just type the following:
and the picture will appear when you save changes. You can also upload images to the wiki directly. Once you're in editing mode, click the link to the right side of the screen called "Upload Files." You'll go to the upload the screen where you can browse through your hard drive or other digital storage to find the appropriate image. When you've chosen the image, select "Upload." The image will now be available as a picture link within the wiki like so:
All you have to do is type in the above code on your page to get the pic.
Please note that space on pbwiki is limited, so when possible, add images using the first method rather then uploading images.
P&C
Don't bother--adding pics is much easier with Classic mode. Switch to classic, add the pic, save changes, start editing, and change back to P&C if you like it better--trust me on this.
You can add YouTube video to the wiki. Find your video on YouTube and copy the "Embed Video" code. Back in the wiki, paste it in the appropriate spot. When you save changes, the video will be embedded in the wiki page.
Find your video on YouTube and copy the "Embed Video" code. Click on the "Insert Plugin" button in your toolbar. In the dialog box that opens, select "Video" and then "YouTube Video." Another dialog box appears. Paste the embed text in the box provided. Click "Next." A preview window appears. If your video is formatted fine, click "Finish" to embed the video. When you save your changes, the video will appear in the page.
After uploading the file to the wiki, you'll need to make a link to it so I can download it. Doing so is very similar to creating other links within the wiki, with a slight--but important!--change.
(Obviously, the file names and titles shown here are just examples) The key difference is the inclusion of the "/f/" switch after the main URL; my guess is this directs the browser to the "Files" folder of the wiki to download the necessary file.
P&C
Click on the "Attach File" button. A dialog box will open. Select your file and click "Okay". You're done!
As you can see, linking to the uploaded files is a bit simpler in P&C, but you can't name your link the way you can in Classic. It's your call which you use--the important thing is that you post it in a timely fashion.
SOME COMMON WIKI COMMANDS for CLASSIC EDITOR
!Sample
makes text very large
!!Sample
makes text somewhat large
''Sample''
This is 2 single quotation marks, not our usual double quotations. This makes italic text.
**Sample**
bold text
* sample
** also sample
* sample
** also sample
makes a bulleted list, like so:
I
love
my
wiki!
# sample
## also sample
# sample
## also sample
makes a numbered list, like so:
I
think
wikis
rock!
That's plenty for now. Remember, if you see something done on a wiki and you don't know how to do it, you can easily go into the edit mode and copy the formatting from someone else's page.
